Community Informatics Systems: A Construct for Addressing the Digital Divide

This paper discusses the growing interest in the role of the civil society in addressing issues of inequities in access and use of ICT for local community benefit. It proposes a new framework within a construct of the Information Society for the development of a Community Informatics Systems (CIS) approach for research, teaching and practice which runs parallel to Management Information Systems (MIS). It goes on to outline a suggested framework for CIS research and practice
